Digital Impressions In Elmhurst, IL
In the past, when you required a dental crown, your dentist would have to take molds of your teeth by using a goopy, putty-like substance. This allowed them to create a three-dimensional model of the tooth that needed treatment. With the help of a dental lab, we were then able to create a customized crown based on this mold.
Here’s how it works
However, as we continue to progress into the technology-driven 21st century, the traditional approach is being substituted with virtual models. These models are created using compact handheld devices called "wands" that utilize a digital camera.
This incredible tool utilizes blue wavelength light to accurately capture the intricate details of your tooth's surface, creating a precise 3D digital model. It allows us to instantly assess your tooth and bite, as well as identify any necessary prep work for new crowns, veneers, and fillings. We can make adjustments, rescan the tooth, and generate a new set of images and 3D model.
