Antibiotic Therapy In Elmhurst, IL

Oral Antibiotics

Tetracycline antibiotics – The main drugs utilized in periodontal treatment are antibiotics such as tetracycline hydrochloride, doxycycline, and minocycline. These medications possess antibacterial properties, help decrease inflammation, and inhibit collagenase, a protein responsible for damaging the connective tissue.
Macrolide antibiotics – These antibiotics have demonstrated effectiveness in reducing inflammation and inhibiting bacterial growth related to periodontitis.
Metronidazole – Severe or chronic periodontitis is typically treated by combining this antibiotic with amoxicillin or tetracycline to address inflammation and inhibit bacterial growth.

Gels and strips for topical application

Atridox® – The doxycycline gel is specifically shaped to conform to the gum surfaces and solidifies on their surface. Over time, the gel gradually releases the antibiotic medication.
PerioChip® – After the root planing procedure, this chip is inserted into the gum pocket. PerioChip® gradually releases Chlorhexidine, a potent antibacterial antiseptic. In individuals with periodontitis, PerioChip® typically decreases pocket depth.
Actisite® – This slender strip resembles dental floss and is infused with tetracycline hydrochloride. It is temporarily positioned between the tooth and gum to eliminate bacteria and decrease the depth of gum pockets. Occasionally, multiple threads are inserted for approximately 10 days to amplify the antibiotic impact.
Elyzol® – The metronidazole antibiotic is available in both gel and strip forms. What sets it apart is its ability to eliminate parasites and oral bacteria.
Arestin® – After scaling and root planning, the Minocycline antibiotic is administered through mini capsules directly into the gums.
